style baby

Oto i pierwszy wywiad z zaplanowanej serii. Nie będą one raczej publikowane jak planowałem co tydzień, a  co dwa (albo w ogóle w przypadkowych odstępach czasowych), z racji na dosyć uporczywy proces kontaktu na odległość. Enjoy!

Zapałałem niesamowitą sympatią do Saily, kiedy tylo wysłała mi pierwszego maila. Nie dosyć, że wspaniale pisze, to jest też niezwykle miłą osobą. Zapraszam na jej bloga (SAILA & SPINAE).

Ok, so here's the very first interview with the m a r v e l l o u s young lady- Saila Ren (of SAILA & SPINAE). This stylish gal totally cought my eye, while browsing the lookbook. Isn't she lovely? I adore the way she writes and the way she looks. Simply perfect.

I highly recommend listening to the song while reading.

If you could describe your style in 3 words, what would it be? I find ur style as really incisive. Can you tell me what inspire you the most?

Three words... Hm... I tend to find describing anything in only three words rather difficult, as I'm the kind of person who enjoys describing things in great detail, heh. However, I'd definitely include "developing" as one of my three. Though it doesn't say much about my style itself, it's good to know that my style's never stagnant and that it's always changing. I'm not really sure what my style is at this point, so I don't really have any trademark quirks that I can put as one of my three words. I'm still a "style baby," if that's how you wanna put it. So, I guess I don't really have two other words quite yet.

I tend to be open to inspiration. I'm a fan of the crisp, clean look seen in menswear or even more in men-inspired womenswear. I'm a huge admirer of the 90's grunge look — maybe that's cliché, but it's a damn good era to pull inspiration from, in my opinion. My favorite outfits, however, are often those that combine themes or time periods that you'd never think would or could be combined. For example, 60's goth or — one of my favorite themes as of the current moment — gothic Renaissance. I'm a huge pseudo-nostalgist, per se... I always like to examine past eras and trends to inspire what I wear and buy, despite never having lived through them. It's fun, you know?

As for me, totally understandable, I'm in love with 90's too! Well, I'm always so curious about this: who do you consider as the fashion icon?

I don't have many style icons, since I tend to appreciate outfits individually. It's kind of similar to how I usually like individual songs more than I like artists, I guess. Well, the people that are my fashion icons are all on Lookbook, actually. They all have their own way of dressing that are all equally unique, which is something I really enjoy. :-) I admire Kayla Hadlington's quirkiness, Bebe Zeva's usage of themes so distinctly that her outfits are almost like costumes (which is perfect), and Madeline Pendleton's very vintage-themed style. Those three are probably my top three icons (in no particular order!), but I get as much if not more inspiration from past eras and also, again, various different outfits. Ridsnap.com is so great for inspiration, but I don't follow anyone specific on there.

Also, You're really young as for personal style blogger. I'd like to know how and when did you get interested in fashion and how the people around you react to the way you dress?

I began to be truly curious about style and dressing as a really young child. Not like my sibling, my mom stopped dressing me rather early, and I was left alone to do virtually whatever I pleased. In around 7th-grade-or-so, I began to be unsatisfied with my classic t-shirt-and-jeans outfit. I started seeking better clothing, but at that time, it was purely aesthetic instead of artistic. On top of that, I was extremely self-conscious and refused to wear any shorts, skirts, or sleeveless shirts, even in 110°F weather (about 43.3°C). But, I'd always been interested in art and self-expression, and sooner or later, I began to be interested in directing that self-expression to my clothing too. LookBook really led me to coming out of my shell and seeking a more adventurous mind and closet. People in my town generally believe that girls and their outfits look "cute" if they're wearing Toms, a floral skirt, and a tank top. It's not too bad, I guess, and there is the occasional human who dresses in an interesting way. So, I'm not looked at as too freaky, but a large majority of me really wishes I was, heh! And, none of my friends hold many similar interests with me. It's strange, actually, because none of us listen to the same sort of music and none of them seem to be interested in controversial political or philosophical banter like myself. Likewise, none are very interested in style. I do have a couple friends who like vintage shopping and "looking cute," but other than that, the only thing most friends of mine have in common are the fact that they don't really have anything in common at all. They usually don't react much to my outfits other than saying that I need new tights because the pair I wear most often are laddered all over the place. Problem is, I like them a lot, so I just shrug it off!

What and why is your favourite collection for S/S 2012?

I don't think I have a favorite collection! I usually don't really pay attention to collections, really... Though it's not really clothing, shoes are still style, so I don't think what I'm about to say is out of place, but people seem to be going really crazy over the Wildfox x Jeffrey Campbell collaboration that's supposed to be coming out soon. I do think it's a pretty nice collection, especially the ballet flatforms. Those are divine!

Do you sometimes feel tired of wearing such, let's say, from the lack of a better word, unusual clothes? I'm sure you've got these days when you wake up and feel like you just want to wear jeans and a t-shirt and pay absolutely no attention on the way you look.

Hah, well, my unwillingness to get out of my bed really hinders my creative ability. While I can sleep late and wake up early and not be too tired, my biggest problem is just getting out of bed. Because of that, I force myself out of my bed about 30 minutes before I have to leave, which is the minimum amount of time I need to at least throw something on. It's a horrid routine of habit, really...

And, I definitely have my lazy days; but, the laziest I usually get if I have to go to school is cuffed black skinny jeans, a graphic tee, and a leather jacket. I've had a wide variety of irrational insecurities about myself for a long time, but to simplify this one, it's really not about worrying what other people think. I feel uncomfortable when I go out in a really mediocre, simple outfit, as if I was going out in my underwear and nothing else. I always have this conscience that's telling me I can't just go out in whatever, and if I do somehow get over it, I never have a good day. I know it sounds horribly self-absorbed, but I assure you, it's truly not! :-)

Do you have anything that you consider as an 'ultimate must-have'?

Oh wow, I think this is the most difficult question so far. Definitely gotta have underwear, right? But if you're talking about clothing on top of underwear, I gotta say a black leather jacket. I wear mine almost everyday to school because I'm a lazy ass and can't be bothered to wear something better at 7 in the morning after rolling out of bed.

If you were able to travel through time and space, where would you go?

There are so many places I'd want to go to! Whoa! I'd go to any big city in the U.S. during the 1910s because I'm enamored by the early 1900s... I'd probably try to visit every big city out of the U.S. during every time period as well! I'd probablynever be home!

Imagine that all the fuss about the end of the world on 12.21.12 was true, fortunatelly
governments has built ships for people to survive. You can take just one piece from your closet with you. What would it be?

I'm gonna have to say this rather soft water-repelling navy blue hoodie my mom always lets me borrow (so much so that I'm always wearing it around the house). It's incredibly warm and cozy. I know it's not "fashionable," but if the world was ending, I would guess that expressing my style on a boat in what I'm assuming is the middle of the ocean would be my last priority... Though, if I was to bring something that I could wear at least decent outfits with, it would be a pair of black tights. At least I could wear simple, large t-shirts or button-ups or what have you with them.

First song that came to your mind?

"Sick Muse" by Metric. Even though Metric's my favorite band, that song isn't my favorite by them, so I don't know why I have it stuck in my head...

"Watch out, Cupid stuck me with a sickness
Pull your little arrows out, let me live my life
You better watch out, Cupid stuck me with a sickness
Pull your little arrows out, let me live my life
The one I better lead, all the blondes are fantasies"
